THE WAY is a cathartic film about a grieving father’s ache to connect posthumously with his estranged son, who died on the Camino de Santiago. Father Tom decides to walk the same ancient spiritual trail, taking son Daniel's ashes with him. An expanded journey takes place and transformation ensues.
Born near Santiago Compostela, Francisco Estevez, Martin Sheen's father, was the inspiration for the film. Directed, produced, and written by Emilio Estevez, who stars alongside his father, makes this 2010 film an extended family creation.
With the completion of Sagrada Familia this year (another 'family' creation), Spain is really feeling like the place to pilgrimage to this Saturday Night.
