1. Overview

The Storytown app allows you to discover local events and, optionally, create a free account to follow venues, artists, and organizers and receive email notifications about upcoming events that match your interests.

User account functionality is powered by Rova.Live. When you create an account or use account features in the Storytown app, you are interacting with Rova.Live's platform via its API. Rova.Live independently controls and processes all account data. We encourage you to also review Rova.Live's Privacy Policy for complete information about how your account data is handled.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 If You Do Not Create an Account

If you use the App without creating an account, we collect only limited, anonymous usage data as described in Section 2.3. No personally identifiable information is collected.

2.2 If You Create an Account (via Rova.Live)

When you register for an account, the following information is collected and stored by Rova.Live:

  • Name — your display name
  • Email address — used for login and event notification emails
  • Password — stored securely (hashed and encrypted) by Rova.Live
  • Phone number (optional) — collected for future SMS notification features; not currently used for SMS communications
  • Preferences and interests — venues, artists, and organizers you choose to follow
  • Notification settings — your preferences for receiving event alerts

This data is stored in Rova.Live's database and governed by Rova.Live's privacy practices.

2.3 Anonymous Usage Analytics

We use PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated data to improve app performance and user experience. This data cannot be used to identify you personally and includes:

  • Device type, operating system version, app version
  • App features accessed, session duration, navigation patterns
  • Crash reports and technical error logs
  • Anonymized IP address, general geographic region (country/state level only)

3. How We Use Your Information

Account Information (processed by Rova.Live)

  • Authenticate your identity when you log in
  • Enable you to follow venues, artists, and organizers
  • Send you email notifications about upcoming events matching your interests
  • Allow you to manage your notification preferences
  • Provide account support and respond to inquiries

Phone Number

Your phone number is collected to reserve your preference for future SMS notification features. We will not send SMS messages to your number until that feature is launched, and you will be given the opportunity to opt in or out at that time.

Anonymous Analytics

  • Improve app functionality, performance, and stability
  • Analyze usage trends to inform product decisions
  • Identify and resolve bugs and crashes

4. Email Communications

If you create an account and opt in to notifications, we will send you transactional and notification emails including event alerts and account-related communications (password resets, account confirmations).

Email delivery is handled by Resend (https://resend.com/privacy), a third-party email delivery service. Your email address is shared with Resend solely for the purpose of delivering these messages.

You can unsubscribe from notification emails at any time via the unsubscribe link included in every email, or by updating your preferences in the App.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Rova.Live — account data is stored and processed by Rova.Live as our platform provider
  • Resend — email address shared solely for notification delivery
  • PostHog — anonymous usage analytics
  • Legal Requirements — if required by law, court order, or governmental authority
  • Business Transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; any successor entity will be bound by this Privacy Policy

Venues, artists, and organizers do not receive access to your personal information when you follow them.

6. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is deleted from Rova.Live's systems per their data retention policy.
  • Anonymous analytics data: Up to 26 months via PostHog
  • Email delivery logs: Per Resend's retention policy

7. Data Security

Rova.Live implements industry-standard security measures to protect your account data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. We implement reasonable technical and administrative safeguards for the anonymous data we collect. No method of electronic transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Privacy Rights

Account Deletion

You may delete your Rova.Live account and all associated data directly within the App or at https://rova.live. Deletion removes your name, email, phone number, and preferences from Rova.Live's systems.

Opt Out of Notifications

You may opt out of event notification emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or via your in-app notification settings.

Opt Out of Analytics

You may limit analytics data collection through your device's privacy settings or by uninstalling the App.

8.1 California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected about you
  • Delete your personal information (via account deletion in the App)
  • Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information)
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

8.2 European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. To exercise these rights, contact us or Rova.Live directly. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. User accounts require users to be at least 13 years of age. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that account.

10. Third-Party Services and Links

The App may include links to third-party ticketing platforms (e.g., Eventbrite, Ticketmaster, Luma). These services operate independently and have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

11. International Data Transfers

User data may be processed in the United States or other countries where Rova.Live and its infrastructure providers operate. If you access the App from outside the United States, your information may be subject to different data protection laws.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We will update the "Last Updated" date and post revised terms at https://storytownashland.com/app/privacy. If changes are material, we will notify users within the App. Your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
