Films From The Scholer System: Poems by D.H. Jenkins brings together animation, poetry, and live music in an immersive multimedia performance created by musician, composer, and animator Bill Scholer and internationally published poet and playwright D.H. Jenkins.

For the past fifteen years, Scholer and Jenkins have collaborated to create poetry/music animations in which Jenkins’ words are transformed into visual worlds through Scholer’s original animation and music. Their work has been presented internationally at festivals including the Helios Sun Poetry Film Fest in Mexico, Animation Celebration in the United States, the Smaragdni Eco Film Fest in Croatia, and the Babul Eco Film Fest in India.

The live presentation expands these films into a performance experience, with Scholer's original music performed live alongside his animations and Jenkins' poetry. Dan Wells will read Jenkins' poems during the performance.

The musical ensemble, The Scholer System, features Bill Scholer on guitar and vocals, Tim Kelly on bass, Tyler Moline on tuba, and Cathy Dorris on percussion. Scholer will also perform on an unusual instrument of his own invention, the Dantar—a unique console incorporating elements of the Indian sitar, Vietnamese dan bau, Japanese Nagoya harp, electric African thumb piano, and sitar guitar.

Scholer's animation and music also extend beyond his collaboration with Jenkins. His animated music video “The Funky Buzzards,” featuring his original song, received honorable mentions from the LA Movie and Music Video Awards (2024) and the 6th Annual Widescreen Music and Video Festival in Toronto, Canada (2024).

Films From The Scholer System offers audiences an opportunity to experience poetry not simply as something heard or read, but as something seen, performed, and inhabited—a meeting place where moving images, language, and live music become part of the same imaginative landscape.

About D.H. Jenkins:

D.H. Jenkins is an internationally published poet and playwright currently living in New Zealand. His latest book of poetry, Memory of Rocks and Shells, was published by Hog Press in 2026. His honors include the Bylee Massey Award for projects in the Humanities and the Drazek Excellence in Teaching Award.

Jenkins' plays have been staged in California, Arizona, Australia, and Japan. His poetry has appeared in Jerry Jazz Musician, Kinds of Cool: An Interactive Collection of Jazz Poetry 2025 (Unsolicited Press), The Tiger Moth, The Global South, The Ekphrastic Review, The Wave, Kelp Journal, Ocean Poetry Anthology 2024 (Kelp Books), and Ocean Poetry Anthology 2025 (Kelp Books).
