WaaM A working group for Autistic adults. WEEKEND ASHLAND AUTISTIC MEET-UP
Sundays · 10:00 – 11:30 AM · White Rabbit Clubhouse · 5 N Main St #2, Ashland OR · Adults 18+
What This Is WAAM is a weekly gathering for Autistic adults who want to be around other Autistic people. Not to process trauma or rehearse grievances, but to think together, share expertise, solve problems, and build real connections using our own native communication style. The low-masking environment is not the point. It is the infrastructure. When you are not spending energy performing neurotypicality, you can spend it on things that actually matter: exchanging ideas, going deep on your domain, helping someone else with a problem you have already solved. Autistic people are genuinely useful to each other in ways neurotypicals cannot replicate. We process differently, we notice different things, we build different systems. That is not a consolation prize. It is a resource, and it goes to waste if the only thing we do when we get together is talk about how hard things are.
Who This Is For Adults (18+) who are Autistic. Formally diagnosed, self-identified, or still figuring it out. The common thread is not a diagnosis date. It is the desire to show up, contribute, and engage rather than vent. If you are in crisis or need clinical support, we can likely direct you to find the right resources. But that is not what this group is. We are working peers and equals, not therapists. We are builders and movers who enjoy goal directed behaviors and knowledge sharing vs the usual "small talk".
What We Actually Do Each week has a focus, but the group steers. Topics rotate between some common modes:
Build & Exchange Deep-dives into someone's area of expertise. Problem-solving sessions where someone brings a real challenge and the group attacks it. Skill shares. Systems and workflows that actually work. Professional networking. Project collaboration.
Navigate & Strategize Concrete strategies for work, relationships, and NT spaces. Not "isn't it awful" sessions, but "here is what I tried, here is what worked." Sensory negotiation tactics. Communication frameworks. Practical tools you leave with.
Movement Human's thrive when they move - So we will always be encouraging movement and exercise and getting out of our head as much as we encourage deep dives. Balance is key.
